B.A. History and History of Art with a Year in Computer Science Full-time

Year: 2
2024/25 Session

The University Regulations permit students registered to Joint degrees to vary their credit weighting in their second and final year. A minimum of 40 credits and a maximum of 80 credits must be taken in each discipline in both years (subject to a total number of 120 credits in each year). Students who undertake less than 160 credits in one of their disciplines will graduate with a major/minor degree.

The following must be taken:

Students must take a minimum of 40-credits in History and a minimum of 40-credits in History of Art. All optional lists are indicative; not all modules will run each year depending on staff availability. Credits must be evenly balanced between semesters.

For students taking 40 credits worth of Art History modules there are no compulsory modules from Art History.

Students taking 60 or 80 credits in Art History must take the following modules: LI Art History in the Field: Overseas Study Trip (24005) and LI Research Techniques in History of Art (24008).

Students taking 40c of Art History & 80c in History

Art History: Students choose 1 option in Sem 1 & 1 in Sem 2
History: Students will choose 1 option in Sem 1 from History List A PLUS EITHER History in Theory in Practice OR a Skills module in Sem 1 & 1 Research Methods option in Sem 2 from List C. You will also take the compulsory module in Sem 2.
OR
Art History: Students choose 1 option in Sem 1 and 1 in Sem 2
History: Students will choose 1 option in Sem 1 from History List A & 1 in Sem 2 from History List B & EITHER History in Theory in Practice OR a Skills module in Sem 1. You will also take the compulsory module in Sem 2.

Students taking 60c of Art History and 60c in History
Art History: Students choose 1 option in Sem 1 and 1 option in Sem 2. You will also take the two compulsory modules in Sem also take the two compulsory modules in Sem 2.
History: Students will choose 1 option in Sem 1 from History List A & EITHER History in Theory and Practice OR a Skills module. You will also take the compulsory Topics in History module in Sem 2.
OR
Art History: Students choose 2 options in Sem 1. In sem 2, you will just take the two compulsory modules.
History: Students will choose 1 option in Sem 1 from History List A & 1 Research Methods option in Sem 2 from History List C. You will also take the compulsory module in Sem 2
OR
Art History: Students choose 2 options in Sem 1. In sem 2, you will just take the two compulsory modules.
History: Students will choose 1 option in Sem 1 from History List A & 1 in Sem 2 from History List B. You will also take the compulsory module in Sem 2.

Students taking 80c of Art History & 40 in History.
Art History: Students choose 2 options in sem 1 & 1 option in sem 2. You will also take the two compulsory modules in Sem 2. History: Students will choose 1 option in Sem 1 from History List A. You will also take the compulsory module in Sem 2.

All students must choose ONE 20-credit option in Semester 1.

Students taking 60-80 credits in History also have the option to choose ONE 20-credit option in Semester 2.

With the approval of the programme lead students may also take 20 or 40 credits of an approved module or modules offered by a School or Department other than History in place of one or two options on Lists A and/or B only. Other departments: Credits must still be evenly balanced across semesters.

History: Students may also apply to undertake a Professional Skills module at level I. If successful, this will be taken in place of 20 credits of taught modules in History. The credits to be dropped will be discussed with the programme convenor. The placement can be taken either during the summer vacation (part-time or full-time) or during semester 1 (part-time only). The placement must be completed prior to the Christmas vacation. Students undertaking a Professional Skills module at level I will not be able to undertake a Professional Skills module at level H.
